Design Your Future: Auckland City

Early-September, young people from across Tāmaki Makaurau came together for an inspiring Design Your Future workshop to imagine the Auckland they want to live in.

The session created space for rangatahi to share what makes the city feel like home, and to dream big about better transport, housing, climate action, and community spaces. Through interactive activities from vision mapping and values voting to table talks and civics 101 participants explored how local government decisions shape everyday life, and how their voices can directly influence the city’s future.

Highlights included:

  • Auckland Vision Map – using pins and sticky notes, attendees reimagined neighbourhoods with new parks, transport links, and community facilities.

  • Table Talks – in-depth conversations about council services, barriers to access, and opportunities for improvement.

  • Civics 101 – a hands-on workshop run by the UoA Public Policy Club, helping demystify how Auckland Council works.

This event, run in with the help of Youth Climate Collective & was all about building a shared vision for Auckland’s future, one that will be presented directly to mayoral candidates later this year.
