Social Change Collective

Youth-led. Action-focused. Community-powered.

Why we exist!

Back in 2017, SCC began with a simple question from a group of young people in Wellington: “Why aren’t we more involved in the big stuff?” Since then, we’ve grown into a community driven by a shared purpose — to create space for young people to learn, connect, and act on the issues that shape our world.

Our kaupapa is clear: we’re here to support rangatahi to step into their power — whether that’s through climate justice, social justice, or civic engagement. We believe that informed and connected young people are unstoppable.

OUR VISION
An Aotearoa where young people are actively shaping a socially and environmentally just future.

OUR WHY
The future we envision can only be achieved through intergenerational justice and kotahitanga. Too often, young people feel disconnected, disheartened, or unsure of how to cut through the noise and contribute meaningfully.

OUR HOW
We connect, educate, and enable young people to take action on the issues that matter.

We do this by creating space to:

  • Learn, understand, and hold space for dialogue on social and environmental issues

  • Build agency in the face of complex problems

  • Nurture community and connection

  • Be part of collective action to leave the world better than we found it

OUR POU

Connect

  • We bring together young people, organisations, and kaupapa across Aotearoa.

  • We engage regularly with our collective through accessible, interactive events and initiatives.

Educate

  • We hold space for learning, dialogue, and critical discussion.

  • We equip our collective with the knowledge, tools, and support to participate in change-making.

Enable

  • We create tangible, accessible pathways to action.

  • We empower our collective to spark a ripple effect of change in their own communities.

Honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi

  • We strive to be a good Te Tiriti partner in everything we do.

  • We collaborate on community-led action, and commit to confronting racism and colonisation through our kaupapa and operations.
